Katy Perry's reaction to Sons of Anarchy's actor Johnny Lewis's death was one of complete shock. The Wide Awake singer says she is devastated over his passing. Lewis died in a bizarre scenario involving the murder of an elderly woman. He is believed to be the murderer.
According to a report from Hollywood Life, Katy dated Lewis from 2005-2006 and is now shaken at the notion of his committing murder as well as his death. She recalls sensing trouble in Johnny when they dated.
"She had to separate from him . . . to get ahead and focus on her career," a source says. "He was in trouble then, and she couldn't help him. A lot of her songs were partially inspired by him. I know 'The One That Got Away' and 'Circle the Drain' are partly about him, as well as Travis [McCoy of Gym Class Heroes]. But she was young and it was a time in her life she cherishes."
Katy is no doubt breathing a huge sigh of relief that she didn't continue her relationship with Lewis—although she did wind up with Russell Brand.
"They had good times. It's really sad. She could never help him and couldn't [let herself] go in that direction," the source adds.
Regardless of Katy Perry's reason for splitting from Johnny Lewis, she definitely feels for his family and friends for their tragic loss.
It will be interesting to learn more details about this strange case as they emerge, following an investigation conducted by the LAPD.
