It looks like actress Natalie Portman may have landed a plum role; that of Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis. Word is that Fox Searchlight Films is looking for their Jackie and Natalie could just fit the bill.
It's easy to picture the pretty, petite and slim actress in Chanel suits and pillbox hats. She has the face and body that can pull them both off. Plus, they just might suit her.
The film's script writer is Noah Oppenheim. The timing will cover a side of Jackie-O's life less often seen. That would be the time after the death of famed husband John Fitzgerald Kennedy. Exactly how much of her life could become film fodder, however, remains unknown.
Rumor has it that Portman's excited about the project. However, she's not about to sign up for it until she knows which director will be at the helm. That is, as of yet, unknown too. The slot was originally intended for Portman's Black Swan director, Darren Aronofsky. However, he pulled out of the project when his wife at the time, Rachel Weisz, did. They have since divorced and Weisz is now married to James Bond's Daniel Craig.
Although Steven Spielberg supposedly showed interest in the film a couple of years back, no one knows if he will actually be involved. Fans will have to wait and see what develops.
However, Portman seems a perfect choice to portray Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis. She has the same ladylike demeanor, quiet charm and unique beauty. Here's hoping the project makes it to fruition.
