Poor Selena Gomez. Taylor Swift's revelations just keep on coming, and it seems the Spring Breakers star is, like it or not, prominently featured in the most recent one. The elfin-faced country darling's latest tidbit of personal information is that her BFF, Selena, inadvertently inspired her to date her new younger light of love, Conor Kennedy.
In a new interview in Rolling Stone, Taylor opened up about why she chose to date "such a younger man." She confessed that she "may have gotten the idea from 20-year-old Selena, who's perfect "Boyfriend" of 2 years is none other than 18-year old teen idol, Justin Bieber. When asked why she'd suddenly switched from pursuing older men like John Mayer and Jake Gyllenhaal who are, at 34 and 31, ten years her senior, Swift replied:
"I have rules for a lot of areas of my life. Love is not going to be one of them."
She also readily admitted that she "probably" got the idea of being a "minicougar" from Selena.
Right. In all fairness, La Swift doesn't need to justify her choice of a younger boyfriend to anyone. If the genders were reversed, age wouldn't even be an issue. In fact, wasn't the Twilight heart-throb, Robert Pattinson, Swift's age--22--, when he first took up with the then 18-year-old Kristen Stewart? What makes Swift's liaison with Conor seem more age disparate than it really is, is that Conor is still just a junior in high school. Justin Bieber was also a high school "kid" when he and Selena Gomez became an item. However, Selena was still a teenager herself at that time, plus, Biebs with his mega-stardom and all its inherent power, never really seemed much like a high school kid--even when he behaved like one.
Swift's romance with Conor might strike some people as dicey not because of the age difference, but because of its reported intensity and the rumors that the country darling is already pushing for marriage. A case in point is the bizarre rumor that La Swift kidnapped Conor and absconded to Nashville with him on her private jet. Swift found the very idea ludicrous.
"How did I kidnap him?" she laughed. "You can't kidnap a grown man! These are serious accusations, now!"
For once, even her harshest critics would have to agree.
