It's not often that Aishwarya Rai and Gauri Khan find themselves in direct competition. After all, Aishwarya is a global mega star and heroine of some of Bollywood's most iconic films, and Gauri Khan is, well, a housewife.
But owing to this weekend's big Bachchan birthday blowout, they've both found themselves on a variety of best-dressed lists. So which of these ladies looked the best on the red carpet?
Gauri: Cheap, Tacky "Style"
For some reason Gauri Khan is constantly held up as a style icon. Maybe she's had some good days, but her appearance at Amitabh Bachchan's birthday celebration wasn't one of them. Her one-shouldered leopard print dress/jumper looked like something someone's crazy grandmother would wear for "formal night" on a Caribbean cruise. Her big hair turned the look into something straight out of the '80s.
Aishwarya: Elegant But Boring
Aishwarya's been a bit off her style game this year as she's struggled with a bit of stubborn baby weight, preferring voluminous suits which hide her figure to her sexier pre-pregnancy looks. She showed off a slimmer waistline this weekend but stuck to her tired standard of Abu Jani-Sandeep Khosla. While the cut of her cream-colored suit was flattering, the color bored. It was still heads and shoulders above Gauri's look, though.
And the winner is...
So who wins the style award this week? The fashion media got it right when they skipped over Gauri and Aishwarya completely and lauded the simple beauty of Chitrangada Singh's blue-green gown. Chitrangada's appearance at the launch of this month's Women's Health magazine cover was absolutely perfect: fresh, sophisticated, and breathtaking.

A woman who has decided to give her time and energy to her family is in no way lesser than a woman who has a successful career and has made it big. I think its something commendable when women decide to put their lives and career aside to take care of their homes and husbands and children. SRK has mentioned quite a few times that he owes his career to his wife who sacrificed to be at home and take care of his sister and their children. Women who decide to be housewives and home makers are just as BIG as the women who have successful careers, if not more.
