If you are a fan of Hindi Movies, you might be familiar with Yash Chopra, one of the most well-known Bollywood film directors and producers of the 20th century. Chopra, who was 80, died at hospital in Mumbai on Sunday after being admitted a few days earlier for dengue symptoms. Although most people in the United States may not be familiar with Bollywood movies, they are some of the best films out there. It is a sad day for the world of Indian cinema, and everyone from the actors and crew that worked with Chopra, to friends and family members, will miss the man considerably.
Chopra, who died on Sunday evening, was cremated around 24 hours later at Chandanwadi Crematorium, with many of those who knew him from the world of cinema in attendance as well as friends and family members. His official cause of death is Dengue and multiple organ failure. Dengue is an infectious disease carried by some species of mosquito. Disease like this still affects many in parts of the world like South and Central America and parts of Southern Asia.
Chopra's body was put on display on Stage 3 at the Yash Raj Films Studio so that people could pay their respects. He was preparing for the release of the last movie that he was planning to direct when he was admitted to the hospital. A large number of Hindi movies are here because Chopra produced or directed them, and Bollywood film stars of all types came to the studio to pay homage to the great director. With so many films and so many awards, it will be tough for any other Bollywood or even Hollywood film director to rival his body of work.
