16 & Pregnant has chronicled the lives of teen moms for four seasons. During those seasons, fans have met girls from all walks of life and, while they may be completely different, they all have that one thing in common. Some of the girls handle the stress better than others and some have even gone on to add to their broods. The truth is, everyone handles being a young parent differently.
On Thursday, Jamie McKay of season three revealed on Twitter that she had recently found out that she was pregnant again. She even posted a photo of her ultrasound (which she later removed.) With the photo she wrote, "Rest in peace little angel. September 17, 2012." Ultimately, this led many people to think that Jamie had suffered a miscarriage. Rather than let people think that, she revealed that she had actually had an abortion.
Even though she was honest about her decision, it didn't exactly go over well on the social networking site. She had to block a lot of "haters," but she thanked all of her fans for their support.
Whether you are pro-choice or pro-life, abortion is still a hot button issue. So many people have an opinion on it and never take the time to listen to a person's individual story. Everyone makes their decisions based on the needs of their family and there are a lot of factors that go into the decision making process. She explained to her fans why she made the decision saying:
"I made a mistake and I can't take it back. I have had this in my heart and it has been very hard on me. I was afraid to be judged by my. Family, my mother, even my dad. So I did it before they could find out. I should have looked into my options more but I didn't."
Jamie revealed to the author of this article that she told her mother afterwards. Her mother was supportive of her decision, but hated to see her daughter go through something so troubling without her. She also revealed that her boyfriend Ryan (who is the father of her adorable daughter Miah) was also the father of the baby. Luckily, he too, supported her decision. She is now using the birth control Implanon and says that she loves it!
No matter how you feel about abortion, the fact that Jamie McKay was open and honest with the public is admirable. She didn't have to say anything and could have kept it to herself. However, even though she knew there would be a ton of backlash, she still went public with her decision. Her reality story may have stopped with 16 & Pregnant, but she still has a lot of fans who look up to her. While they may not agree with her decision, hopefully they respect her for sharing her story even more with them.
