Selena Gomez admits she probably would have been a teen mom if she hadn't gone into the entertainment business, and she credits her mom for saving her from that kind of life.
According to a report from Us Weekly, Selena dishes in the December issue of Glamour magazine about how life would probably have turned out different had she not gotten her huge big break from the Disney Channel. Even before she starred as Alex Russo on Wizards of Waverly Place, Selena played a recurring role on Miley Cyrus' Disney show—Hannah Montana.
More importantly, Selena lets fans in on her upbringing—or actually her lack of appreciation for it, and how that ultimately changed her life.
"I definitely didn't appreciate [my upbringing] when I was little. I was frustrated that my parents weren't together and never saw the light at the end of the tunnel where my mom was working hard to provide a better life for me," she explains. "I'm terrified of what I would have become if I'd stayed there. I'm sure I'd have two children by now."
It seems Selena definitely beat the odds, don't you think? Not only isn't she a mom of two at age 20, she is also dating the very handsome and talented Justin Bieber. She has left her television roles in favor of film roles and is a very successful pop singer and recording artist. Her biggest hit to date is Love You Like A Love Song.
It's wonderful to see young people like Selena Gomez acknowledge her upbringing and the sacrifices her mother made to help her become the very successful young woman she is today. Few are as humble as Selena—except maybe Justin Bieber, who was raised similarly to his girlfriend—preferring to take the credit for their careers and wealth themselves.
