Teen Vogue readers are about to receive one big holiday treat—times five—when One Direction takes over the December 2012/January 2013 combined issue of the magazine. Harry Styles, Niall Horan, Liam Payne, Louis Tomlinson, and Zayn Malik aren't posing together. Rather, each boy is going solo on his own individual cover, and they hold their own quite well!
Against a baby blue backdrop, splashed with flirty pink cover lines, the 1D heartthrobs all cut a pretty cool profile that mixes seamlessly with their sky-high cuteness quotient and their undeniable hot factor. Adding even more dimension to its 1D coup was the glossy's smart move to show off each of the boys' signatures under a telling quote, uttered during their interview, further personalizing the magazine.
"We're normal teenagers," Horan said in his quote, obviously downplaying the huge level of fame the band has achieved since their humbling beginnings on The X Factor UK. A pre-buzz cut Payne admitted, "I don't really have a backup plan." He may not have a plan B, but he's currently living it up as a pop star and a newly single man, recently exploring a slightly wilder side with his shaved 'do and a new passion for tattoos.
"We're not too clean-cut," tatted-up bad-boy Malik (sans blond streak in his elevated coif) revealed in his quote, natch. And, of 1D's character, Tomlinson said, "We are often a little bit mischievous." The boys obviously don't want to appear too cutesy; they're packing plenty of edge (despite their peppy pop lyrics!), and they want to make sure everyone knows all about it.
But it was Styles who had the most shocking quote. "I'm quite old-fashioned," he said, a revelation that seems at odds with his more progressive dating strategy that includes some serious cougar action and womanizing ways.
Nevertheless, if the One Direction group thing ever goes south, these boys might just be able to stand alone. They definitely hold their own on each of the individual covers. Check out the teen dreams here at Hollywood Life. Directioners will no doubt be scrambling to snatch up the five unique editions of Vogue's younger sister. It's a British-Irish boy band invasion!
