"Dancing With The Stars" hostess Brooke Burke Charvet says she's feeling "totally okay..." heading into thyroid surgery and cancer treatment. She was recently diagnosed with cancer of the thyroid gland.
Regarding her plans for cancer treatment, Brooke told People magazine, "I want to assure everyone that my condition is manageable and I am taking all the proper steps. I never thought I would be applauded [for] my courage to share the news in a home video..." The TV hostess then said, "Please know that I am totally okay."
Folks who have been watching her on the 2012 DWTS All-Stars series who have been wondering why she appears so thin and gaunt have their answer about why her appearance has changed and are wishing her well now.
WebMD confirmed, "The 41-year-old mother of four will undergo surgery to have a thyroidectomy, a procedure to remove part or all of the thyroid gland." The medical resource site also shared, "Young women of childbearing years, those under the age of 45, are the most likely to get it. They get it about four times more often than men...", placing Burke square in the middle of the target demographic.
Sadly, the thing Brooke Burke Charvet appears to be worried about the most is the scar that will be left on her neck thanks to the surgery. Concerned it will affect her looks in a negative way, the hostess and former Mirror Ball Trophy winner has made statements about the fact she will be left with a nice big scar across her neck.
While some fans see that concern as a sign of shallow vanity, on a plus note it shows the DWTS champ has a fighting spirit. Never once has she indicated that she plans to lose the fight against cancer and is instead being proactive to focus on her own healthy comeback.
