Lisa Whelchel, former child star from "Facts of Life" and currently being seen as a contestant on "Survivor," has West Nile virus.
The 49-year-old actress is from Texas, which is one of the hardest hit states as far as the virus is concerned, according to EW.
The article states that over 5,000 Americans have been affected by the virus, which is often spread by mosquitoes. It is not known when or where Whelchel caught the virus.
"Survivor" wrapped production in April, but the season is still going on and Whelchel is still, as of this moment, in contention to win. At the time of filming, she was recently divorced.
Whelchel revealed her condition on Twitter. She tweeted, according to the article, "Dr. just called with blood test results...I have West Nile. Ugh. I'm fine, just tired. Takes a year to recover."
Lisa Whelchel also tweeted that she is very touched by the well wishes she has received as she embarks on the long road to recovery. Hopefully the West Nile Virus can be eradicated in the same way that other diseases have been.
