Lady Gaga bought 55 items belonging to Michael Jackson at an auction in Beverly Hills on Sunday. The auction raised around $5 million, some of which will be donated to charity. The items up for bid included costumes and props from movies and videos.
The celebrity bought costumes, according to an article from Reuters.
Gaga tweeted to her millions of fans that "the 55 pieces I collected today will be archived & expertly cared for in the spirit & love of Michael Jackson, his bravery, & fans worldwide."
Possibly because of Gaga's participation, the auction exceeded pre-auction estimates by several million dollars. It was only expected to raise between 1 and 2 million. Part of the proceeds will benefit Guide Dogs of America and the Nathan Adelson Hospice in Las Vegas.
It is interesting to know that Michael Jackson, who was nearly bankrupt not too long before his death, can generate so much money now that he is dead. Lady Gaga gives generously to charity anyway, so if she also gets pieces she wants to save and preserve for future music historians, more power to her.
