Anne Hathaway was recently photographed with no panties, and she's finding it very difficult to avoid questions about her embarrassing wardrobe malfunction since she's currently promoting her move Les Misérables. However, maybe she should try to say as little about it as possible.
Anne is obviously hungry for an Oscar—she did starve herself to portray sick prostitute Fantine. However, it's a little ridiculous that she's trying to win pity votes by comparing being photographed without panties to being forced into prostitution.
According to the L.A. Times, here's what Anne told Matt Lauer about her wardrobe malfunction being captured on camera:
"I'm sorry that we live in a culture that commodifies sexuality of unwilling participants. That's what my character is. She is someone who is forced to sell sex to benefit her child because she has nothing and there's no social safety net."
So being a filthy rich, critically-acclaimed actress who likes to go commando is the same as being a dying prostitute? Anne Hathaway is more desperate to win that Oscar than anyone realized. There are lots of young women out there who have been forced to turn to prostitution to survive who would probably have a big problem with Anne's comparison. There's a difference between having your lady bits seen because you don't want panty lines and having something forced inside them because you don't want to die.
Anne also probably shouldn't complain about the paparazzi so much. After all, they've helped her with her Les Mis Oscar bid by snapping photos of her emaciated body and her short hair. And she probably made a lot of actresses jealous by being photographed going commando—most celebs these days have to wear Spanx to look svelte and lump-free in their slinky designer gowns.
Maybe Anne just let her terrible comment slip out because she's just embarrassed and doesn't know what to say, or maybe she still a little malnourished.
Whatever the case may be, many young starlets have survived being photographed without underwear before, so Anne should be fine. However, young women forced into prostitution all around the world won't be able to sleep better at night because they can preoccupy themselves with writing Oscar acceptance speeches and choosing expensive gowns for red carpet appearances. These women probably wish they could solve their problems by simply throwing on a pair of Spanx.
