Prudes and jealous Robert Pattinson fans may hate her, but once again it seems Kristen Stewart has come out on top. Despite months of disrespectful press and demonization by the public at large, the On The Road star has emerged at the top of the heap. Or maybe it was the disrespect and vilification that helped her climb up there? Whatever. The immutable fact remains that Stewart was just named number two on Forbes' List of Top Grossing Actors of 2012, beating out her boyfriend, Robert Pattinson who came in at a more than respectable fifth. Congratulations to them both. But will the fact that KStew is officially the more bankable star cause trouble in paradise?
The Twilight Saga has been almost preternaturally good to all its stars, and Breaking Dawn Part Two is no exception. So far, it's earned a whopping $779 million, and it's reportedly "still going strong in theaters." But while all three of its mega stars, Pattinson, Stewart, and the sometimes seemingly forgotten Taylor Lautner now earn the same salary, it is KStew who has emerged as the financial supernova. KStew has brought in an unbelievable $1.1 billion at the box office so far this year. Of course, that includes not only Twilight, but also the infamous Snow White and the Huntsman. The Rupert Sanders-directed film raked in $397 million worldwide. Whether the sex scandal surrounding SWATH hurt or helped the movie financially is unknown. And it doesn't matter. $397 million is $397 million. Why people spent it is irrelevant. What matters is that they shelled it out. SWATH plus her Breaking Dawn earning power have established La Stewart as an A-List "movie star who will have no problem moving beyond the Twilight world."
As for her matinee idol boyfriend, Pattinson also appeared in films besides Breaking Dawn Part Two. But alas, unlike Stewart's Snow White, RPattz's non-Twilight films were not exactly hits. Actually, they both flopped. Bel Ami and Cosmopolis combined earned a pitiful $14 million. Ouch.
As for Taylor Lautner's earnings, no one really cares, except...Taylor Lautner.
So, there you have it. The question is, will Kristen Stewart's success and Robert Pattinson's failure at achieving a profitable post Twilight Saga career become an issue in their now reconciled and supposedly stable relationship?
Time will tell. Stay tuned.
