Lena Dunham thanked Chad Lowe during her acceptance speech at Sunday's Golden Globes. The trouble is, most people couldn't figure out why.
According to a report from TV Guide, the actress promised last August that if she ever gave an acceptance speech, she would thank the handsome actor.
Lowe tweeted Dunham in August and said he was a huge fan. Dunham recalled an occasion in the year 2000 that Lowe's then wife Hilary Swank left him out of her own Academy Awards acceptance speech. She was awarded the title of Best Actress for her role in the film Boys Don't Cry. That stuck with Dunham for years and on Sunday she made good on her promise at the Golden Globes.
Lena Dunham stepped up to the podium to accept her own award—a Golden Globe for Best TV Comedy/Musical Series for the hit show Girls.
"I also promised myself if I ever got this chance, I would thank Chad Lowe," Dunham said on stage. "I'm sorry, I just promised and I promised my mom."
This was, however, Lena Dunham's second speech of the evening, and Lowe wondered earlier if he might have been left out yet again. Dunham didn't mention the actor when she accepted her award for Best Actress in a TV Comedy/Musical Series for Girls. So he gave her a nudge via Twitter.
"Congrats to @lenadunham on your Golden Globe win," he tweeted. "But, seriously? You forget to thank me?! After all we've been through? I'm shocked."
Lowe was thrilled after Dunham thanked him properly, and took to Twitter yet again to convey his gratitude.
"Dearest @lenadunham YOU COMPLETE ME."
"Mutual. It was time," she tweeted back.
Were you among those initially confused at Sunday's Golden Globes over Lena Dunham's strange thank you to the former Life Goes On star? The little brother of beloved actor Rob Lowe certainly celebrated vicariously via Lena Dunham, as she selflessly shared her stage with the Emmy award-winning actor.
Kudos to both actors for jobs well done!
