Mayim Bialik, star of the Big Bang Theory, said in a recent interview that she stopped nursing her son Fred this past November. Trouble is, Fred was four years old by then. How long should mothers nurse their 'babies'?
According to a report from Hollywood Life, the former Blossom star is a big advocate for attachment parenting. That involves extended breastfeeding, natural birth and potty training sans the use of diapers—as well as other things.
Bialik, who writes for a Jewish website says she misses having little Fred nurse.
"I'd be lying if I said I didn't miss being able to latch him on and make it all better. We have other ways to soothe Fred now," she says.
How do you feel about older children nursing? A four-year-old has the capacity to walk up to his or her mom, lift her shirt and ask her for a drink, for goodness sake. Where do parents draw the line? What if Fred was still nursing? Would she visit his preschool at lunch time?
Of course the health benefits of nursing are amazing and that's certainly not in dispute. But don't you imagine little Fred might have been teased by his friends for his mom nursing him?
